Introduction
At Relax Therapy Medical Center, the health and safety of every patient is our highest priority. This section summarises our approved sterilization and hygiene protocols, single-use instruments, room preparation between patients, safe disposal of medical tools, pre-session consultation standards, cases in which a session is not advised, and when you should see a doctor. These standards derive from official health licences and the infection-control protocols approved in the United Arab Emirates.
Instrument Sterilization Protocol
All reusable instruments are sterilised through a strict multi-stage protocol before every use:
- Initial washing to remove visible contaminants immediately after the session.
- Soaking in a dedicated, approved disinfectant and sterilant solution for medical instruments.
- Sterilisation in an autoclave under high pressure and temperature for the recommended time.
- Storage in sealed sterile packaging until the moment of use.
Sterilisation cycles are documented and the autoclave's performance is routinely monitored to guarantee its effectiveness.
Single-Use Instruments
Wherever possible, we follow a single-use principle for everything that directly contacts the skin or blood. Cupping instruments, cups and sharp lancets are opened from their sterile packaging in front of the patient, used only once, and disposed of immediately after the session. They are never reused under any circumstances.
Room Preparation Between Patients
Between every session, the room undergoes a complete cleaning and disinfection process, including:
- Disinfecting the session bed or chair surfaces, equipment and all touched surfaces with an approved disinfectant.
- Replacing linens and covers with single-use or sterile ones for the next patient.
- Sanitising frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, switches and side tables.
- Ventilating the room and confirming sterile supplies are ready before welcoming the next patient.
Safe Disposal of Medical Tools
Single-use cupping, blood-contact and sharp instruments are placed immediately in dedicated, puncture-resistant medical waste containers. These are sealed and collected in accordance with approved medical waste disposal regulations, through licenced specialised contractors, and are never mixed with general waste.
Pre-Session Consultation
Before every cupping session or treatment service, a qualified specialist conducts a comprehensive initial assessment covering your medical history, current medications, age, and basic examinations (such as blood pressure and haemoglobin level when applicable). This assessment is recorded in the patient file, and the decision to start or postpone the session is based on it.
When Is a Session Not Advised?
Cupping and leech therapy services are avoided in the following cases:
- Severe anaemia or a haemoglobin level below the safe threshold.
- Bleeding or blood-clotting disorders, or taking blood thinners.
- Uncontrolled diabetes or diabetes with complications.
- Pregnancy during certain periods, as determined by the specialist physician.
- Acute skin injuries or infections in the session area.
- Fever or an active acute infection.
- Any other health condition the medical specialist deems unsafe for the service.
These cases are evaluated medically, and treatment is only provided once its benefit and safety for the patient are confirmed.
When Should You Consult a Doctor?
If you have persistent or worsening symptoms, a chronic condition without regular follow-up, or take medications that affect bleeding or blood clotting, you must consult your treating physician before booking any treatment session. We also strongly advise seeing a doctor immediately in cases of continuous bleeding from any site, or signs of infection after a session such as redness, swelling or fever.
